The International Congress of Celtic Studies was founded in Dublin in 1959 by the late Brian \u00d3 Cu\u00edv. Since its establishment, the Congress has become the largest international gathering of scholars in the field of Celtic Studies, providing a major forum for the presentation and discussion of research across a wide range of disciplines, including linguistics, archaeology, art history, history, and literature.<\/span><\/p>\n Recent editions of the International Congress of Celtic Studies have been held in:<\/span><\/p>\n Earlier congresses were held in Bonn (2007), Aberystwyth (2003), Cork (1999), Edinburgh (1995), Paris (1991), Swansea (1987), Oxford (1983), Galway (1979), Penzance (1975), Rennes (1971), Edinburgh (1967), and Cardiff (1963).<\/span><\/p>\n The XVIIIth<\/sup> International Congress of Celtic Studies will be held in Salamanca from 26 to 30 April 2027.<\/span><\/p>\n We are delighted to welcome the Celtic Studies community to Salamanca, home to the oldest university in the Spanish-speaking world, founded in 1218.<\/span><\/p>\n \n \n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb column_structure=\u00bb2_5,3_5″][et_pb_column _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb type=\u00bb2_5″][et_pb_image src=\u00bbhttps:\/\/internationalcelticcongresssalamanca.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/MONEDA.png\u00bb _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb title_text=\u00bbMONEDA\u00bb hover_enabled=\u00bb0″ sticky_enabled=\u00bb0″ align=\u00bbcenter\u00bb][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb type=\u00bb3_5″][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb text_text_color=\u00bb#000000″ text_font_size=\u00bb18px\u00bb hover_enabled=\u00bb0″ sticky_enabled=\u00bb0″]<\/p>\n The logo for this edition of the ICCS honours the Celtic heritage of the Duero plateau in northern and central Spain. It features a Celtiberian coin dated to approximately 82\u201372 BCE, discovered in Salamanca. In 1973, during maintenance work next to the cathedral, a lump\u2014possibly a clod of earth or an earthenware container, according to differing accounts\u2014was accidentally broken open, revealing 32 Celtiberian coins inside.<\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00bb{}\u00bb][et_pb_column type=\u00bb4_4″ _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb global_colors_info=\u00bb{}\u00bb][et_pb_text _builder_version=\u00bb4.26.0″ _module_preset=\u00bbdefault\u00bb text_font_size=\u00bb18px\u00bb hover_enabled=\u00bb0″ global_colors_info=\u00bb{}\u00bb sticky_enabled=\u00bb0″]<\/p>\n \n Half of these coins had been minted in a Celtiberian town very likely located somewhere in the Duero valley and bearing a toponym of clear Celtic etymology: Segobrix<\/em> (Segobriga<\/em>). The coin reproduced in the logo is one of these specimens (see M. P.
